Pliegue en rocas estratificadas con forma de “lomo” o arco hacia arriba, donde normalmente afloran las rocas más antiguas en el núcleo. Los anticlinales pueden actuar como trampas estructurales de hidrocarburos y también controlar la posición de ciertos depósitos minerales o influir en las condiciones de terreno y en la estabilidad de taludes y cámaras en el diseño minero.
