assay

An analytical procedure used to determine the metal content or grade of a geological sample, usually expressed in grams per tonne (g/t), percent (%) or ppm. Assays underpin resource estimation by providing quantitative grade data used to model orebodies, define mineralised zones and evaluate economic potential. Accurate assays require strict sampling protocols, QA/QC and certified laboratories.
