altered

In geology, “altered” refers to rocks that have undergone physical or chemical change after their original formation, often due to hydrothermal fluids, metamorphism or weathering. Alteration halos (e.g. sericite, chlorite, silica, carbonate) around structures or orebodies are key exploration guides for many gold, copper and base-metal deposits.
